The NUG welcomes the new wave of sanctions released by the UK government. These new sanctions target three Russian suppliers providing aircraft parts to the Burmese military and the following three Burmese arms brokers:
MYANMAR NEW ERA TRADING COMPANY LIMITED
SKY AVIATOR COMPANY LTD
SYNPEX SHWE COMPANY LTD
These new sanctions are significant as they target companies responsible for supplying aircraft parts to the genocidal military generals which uses its air capacity to carry out deliberate air strikes on civilians and IDPs. The military have no political legitimacy. In a desperate attempt to cling to power they use heavy weapons, artillery and air strikes in many areas of the country, indiscriminately targeting civilians and villages. Coordinated and targeted sanctions such as these are necessary to cut off the supply of arms to the military regime.
We are grateful for the work of the UK in placing these important sanctions to slow the military’s capacity to acquire the arms and materiel they need to continue their campaign of terror and repression. We are hopeful that further targeted sanctions will follow, particularly to expand to include supply of aviation fuel and to cut off the military’s access to weaponry and funds, and we hope that more countries follow the UK’s example.
Let us reiterate that we need coordinated global action now, not later. The military is committing brutal war crimes, human rights violations, systematic torture and every imaginable form of violence against the civilian population on a daily basis, and they show no signs of slowing voluntarily. The genocidal military generals must be cut off from the tools of their bloody trade. For the sake of Myanmar and her people we once again request that all governments and the international community follow the example set by the UK and immediately place aggressive, targeted sanctions on the genocidal military regime and those who support and supply them.
Thank You and Sincerely,
Dr. Sasa
Union Minister of the Ministry of International Cooperation
Spokesperson of the National Unity Government of Myanmar
Former Myanmar Special Envoy to the United Nations
