Three-Year Milestone: Myanmar’s Resilient Path to Peace and Federal Democracy

Today, February 1, marks the three-year anniversary of the Myanmar Spring Revolution. Three years have passed since the genesis of immense pain, suffering, and devastation on February 1, 2021, as genocidal military generals callously stripped Myanmar of its freedom and democracy. Heavy battlefield weapons wielded against the people led to the confirmed deaths of over 4,474 civilians, including innocent children and women. A brutal crackdown ensued, with 25,931 individuals, including President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, unjustly arrested. Pro-democracy leaders faced brutal executions, and tens of thousands of homes, hospitals, and places of worship were obliterated. Entire communities were dismantled, rendering 2.6 million people homeless. This escalating crisis pushed over 18 million to seek lifesaving assistance, plunging 45 million below the poverty line, with their education, health, and economic systems obliterated. This is not merely a political event but an ongoing tragedy of humanity orchestrated by the genocidal military junta SAC.

Yet, Myanmar’s resilient spirit endures. Ethnic and religious groups unite against the tyranny of Min Aung Hlaing and his genocidal military junta. We persist in the fight, giving our all for freedom and federal democracy, and we are winning. A tipping point has been reached, witnessing the collapse of the genocidal military junta. Tens of thousands of soldiers have surrendered, refusing to fight for their brutal masters in Naypyitaw. The genocidal military lost over 500 bases and 30,000 soldiers to the freedom fighters of Myanmar. Dozens of towns and tens of thousands of villages are now under the effective control of people’s administrations, with the military forfeiting more than half of Myanmar’s territory, where basic social services have been provided to strengthen community-led local governances. The brave people of Myanmar stand with unwavering bravery, resilience, and sacrifices made for a brighter future. Our common enemy, the genocidal military, has united us for a shared vision of an inclusive federal democratic Myanmar, ratified in the Federal Democracy Charter (FDC) of Myanmar. These successes showcase the courage and determination of our people, evolving into a revolution of hearts and minds. We will not give up; we will not fail. Our fight is for an inclusive democratic and federal future, where true peace, prosperity, and dignity await us all.

Our vision extends beyond borders, aiming to rid Myanmar of transnational crime hubs created by the brutal military. We are ready to work with ASEAN, neighbors, and the international community for peace, prosperity, and stability. Our struggle is global—a call to all who cherish freedom to make this world a better place for all. We stand on the brink of victory for peace and federal democracy.

As the people of Myanmar emerge victorious, international support remains crucial. Therefore, we respectfully request the International Community, ASEAN, and our neighbors to consider the proposed international assistance mechanisms through the NUG, ethnic partners, and the private sector for donor countries to empower Myanmar for peace and federal democracy. We implore the international community to utilize these two-pronged approaches — the existing  mechanism and this proposed mechanism. Three years of pain, suffering, death, and destruction have not broken our spirit but have made us more determined and stronger. The people of Myanmar are resilient, determined, and united for freedom and federal democracy. International support is vital on our journey toward a brighter, federal democratic future.

Sincerely,
