The NUG expresses its gratitude to Ottawa for their commitment to resolving the ongoing Rohingya and Myanmar crises, and for the dedicated funding which will go to supporting vital medium- and long-term humanitarian assistance projects.

The junta continue to commit brutal war crimes, systematic human rights violations, including torture and rape, and the wholesale destruction of civilian homes. A campaign of terror that has historically been levelled in particular at the Rohingya population and which now all the people of Myanmar are suffering. The military’s abuses of the civilian populace are a daily reality and they show no signs of slowing. Every day more people are displaced by the military regime and the need for humanitarian aid is rising day by day. It is essential and urgent that the humanitarian assistance is brought to the affected communities as soon as possible, and in a transparent and reliable manner.

Therefore, while we appreciate all the humanitarian aid and assistance that has so far come to Myanmar, we would like to take this opportunity to once again urge the international community to support the people of Myanmar with humanitarian aid. Together, we hope to return the country to the path of peace and security, democracy and human rights.

Thank You and Sincerely,

Dr. Sasa
Union Minister of the Ministry of International Cooperation
Spokesperson of the National Unity Government of Myanmar
Former Myanmar Special Envoy to the United Nations
