Pastor Cung Biak Hum

Today I would like to open my heart to you all more than before. I have been trying to find a way to express this pain that holds me hostage and I know holds many of you hostage. I asked my family to draw something based on my thoughts and will be sharing more in the coming days. I hope it resonates with all of you as it does me. Please feel free to share with me your own thoughts and any works of art that express your pain.

For this piece I was thinking of the heart of Pastor Cung Biak Hum of Chin State. He was brutally murdered by the military junta’s forces recently and they cut off his finger to steal his wedding ring while they fire bombed his town. The pastors only crime was loving his people and his country. He will always be a man of peace who gave his life for his town of Thantlang.

They can kill his body but not his spirit, they can steal his wedding ring but they never can never take away his love, they can cut off his finger but they can never cut off his desire for freedom. He will remain in our hearts forever and we will rebuild the beauty of Myanmar for ones such as him.

Sincerely,

H.E. Dr. Sasa
