Statement on The Junta’s continued desecration of the justice system

Today, we have seen an entirely new level of madness and depravity brought about by the junta’s desperation to stay in power against the desire of all the people of Myanmar. Today they sentenced the State Counsellor of Myanmar, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, to 4 more years on the trumped-up charges of ‘possession of walkie-talkies.’ This is a perfect example of how terrified they are of the thought of the people communicating. This pre-verdict announcement of an illegal sentence happened after the visit of the ASEAN Chair and ASEAN Special Envoy Designate. As displayed today, there are no rules of law under the watch of the junta generals in Myanmar, and they fully intend to continue their reign of terror against Myanmar unabated.

We must ask ourselves, “Why does Min Aung Hlaing have so much fear for the peoples’ support and love for our State Counsellor that he must manipulate law and order and the entire judiciary system to keep her under lock and key? Will he ever understand that the people will only love, respect, and embrace her deeper by doing this? That he continues to make her a hero to the people more every day?” With every action, he tightens us as a resistance.

As Min Aung Hlaing robs, burns, and slaughters the people, destroys their livelihoods, and spreads his false propaganda, he cannot and will not win the peoples’ hearts. Every morning he wakes to the blood that covers his hands. Meanwhile, the people of Myanmar can see who is defending them and working for their freedom. They can see that under the new Myanmar-Federal Democratic Union, we will be a country for ALL the people of Myanmar regardless of race, religion, culture, color, gender, background, and ethnicity.

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, our President, U Win Myint, and all 12,000 innocent civilians being illegally arrested by the junta’s brutal forces. We will neither forget nor give up, and we will fight on for the freedom and self-determination that the people of Myanmar long for and deserve.

Sincerely,

H.E. Dr. Sasa
Union Minister of Ministry of International Cooperation

Former Special Envoy to United Nations
