Today marks the anniversary of the establishment of Karenni (Kayah) State. In 1947 Karenni State was a part of one of the states of the Union of Myanmar. In 1951, Karenni State was officially renamed Kayah State on January 15, 1952.
The contributions of our Karenni brethren to our nation are beyond question. Through their efforts and passion, they have helped us build a better Myanmar. But at every turn, their struggles for greater autonomy and self-determination have been undermined by a selfish and cruel military who seek only to rule over Myanmar like kings governing slaves.
In addition to ground operations in Karenni State, the terrorist regime has been severely committing a series of airstrikes and battles daily. The military junta is also targeting civilians and looting the homes of refugees. In Hpruso township, 35 local people were burnt alive and repeatedly violated Crimes against Humanity in Karenni (Kayah) state.
Let us this year mark the founding of Karenni (Kayah) state with a recognition of our Karenni brothers and sisters. A celebration of their rich culture and heritage. Appreciation for the many contributions to our country, and a pledge, to win this fight, to restore democracy, and to honor the agreement made so long ago, to create a genuinely federal democratic Myanmar, with greater autonomy and self-determination for all our ethnic groups, including the brave Karenni brethren.
Sincerely,
H.E. Dr. Sasa
Union Minister of Ministry of International Cooperation
Spoke Person of Nation Unity Government
Former Special Envoy to United Nations
