The NUG welcomes Australia’s targeted sanctions imposed today on five entities directly linked to the Myanmar military regime. These measures are strategically designed to limit the regime’s access to funds and resources, crucial for the perpetuation of atrocities against its own people.

The sanctions include financial restrictions on two banks: Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank and Myanmar Investment and Commercial Bank, which are involved in supporting the regime’s activities. Additionally, three entities supplying jet fuel to the Myanmar military—Asia Sun Group, Asia Sun Trading Co. Ltd., and Cargo Link Petroleum Logistics Co. Ltd.—will also face targeted financial sanctions.

We recognise Australia’s commitment to closely monitoring the regime’s actions and employ all available means to press for the cessation of violence, the release of unjustly detained individuals, unimpeded humanitarian access, and a return to democratic processes.

We are grateful for the work of the Australian government in placing these important restrictions to slow the military’s capacity to continue their campaign of terror and repression. We call on all countries to end the sale and transfer of arms and equipment that facilitate the Burmese military’s atrocities and to take similar targeted measures to hold accountable those profiting from, or supporting, the regime.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sasa
Union Minister
