The NUG welcomes a new wave of sanctions imposed by the US government. These new sanctions target Dynasty International, and its directors Aung Moe Myint, Hlaing Moe Myint & Myo Thitsar. These sanctions will help disrupt arms supplies to the Myanmar junta which uses its capacity to carry out deliberate attack on civilians including children and IDPs. But there are still many arms brokers left to be sanctioned.

The military have no political legitimacy. In a desperate attempt to cling to power they use heavy weapons, artillery and air strikes in many areas of the country, indiscriminately targeting civilians and villages. Coordinated and targeted sanctions such as these are necessary to cut off the supply of arms to the military regime.

We are grateful for the work of the US government in placing these important sanctions to slow the military’s capacity to acquire the arms and materiel they need to continue their campaign of terror and repression. We are hopeful that further targeted sanctions will follow, and we hope that more countries follow suit.

The military is committing brutal war crimes, human rights violations, systematic torture and every imaginable form of violence against the civilian population on a daily basis, and they show no signs of slowing voluntarily. The military must be cut off from the tools of their bloody trade. We once again request that all governments and the international community to immediately place aggressive, targeted sanctions on the military regime and those who support and supply them.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sasa

Spokesperson of the National Unity Government of Myanmar
