The National Unity Government (NUG) welcomes the European Parliament’s 4th resolution on Myanmar to strongly condemn the genocidal military junta and support the NUG with the aim of ensuring a democratic future for Myanmar.

The resolution recognizes the unlawful arrests, violent crimes, unjust wars against ethnic minorities, and human rights violations against journalists and civilians committed by the genocidal military junta.

We acknowledges that the resolution also calls on the NUG to announce a firm stance on the status of the Rohingya people. We are working very closely with the stakeholders, activists and advocates on this issue. We will not rest until justice is delivered to our Rohingya brothers and sisters.

Meanwhile, the NUG welcomes the European Parliament’s calls to increase humanitarian aid and assistance through cross-border humanitarian assistance and direct support to local civil society organizations and ethnic organizations.

The resolution also focuses on media freedom, urges ASEAN to negotiate a new agreement with the NUG – with which we would like to express our strong agreement, stepping up sanctions on oil and gas enterprises, and imposing an arms embargo against the genocidal military junta.

These are all essential and important steps which the NUG would like to encourage other countries and the international community as a whole to act on. Together we have to end the crimes against humanity committed by the genocidal military junta, and the impunity with which they have operated to date.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sasa
Union Minister of the Ministry of International Cooperation
Spokesperson of the National Unity Government of Myanmar
Former Myanmar Special Envoy to the United Nations
